Looking back on last year, a lot has changed. We, people are like clay, we constantly mold ourselves into something new. On the journey of discovering ourselves our clay doesn’t look perfect, it will have scratches and cracks, but a little water can repair these imperfections. That is what 2025 looked like for me, both personally and educationally.
Last year I created a film opening, “Life beyond our eyes”, a poetic message of our perception on life through one of the most critical senses, sight. I learned a lot about composition, art, editing, and timing.
It was very important for me to bring to life the film's opening meaning in a subtle way. The film opening revolves on sight, the first scene is a slow zoom in, close up of an eye, as the camera zooms in, the iris transforms into a detailed kaleidoscope (the colour palette remains the same). This is the first message that the audience can analyze, we absorb every information around us, anything and everything has an impact on us, whether it be big or small. The kaleidoscope represents our minds, how intricate it is, how much of an impact sight has on our perception, its turning raw data into meaningful experiences shaped by our memories, expectations, and attention to understand the world around us.
Time was not always my partner, the overall timeline of when I wanted to edit and film remained stable. Throughout the project I was still learning, each step I took uncovered a new achievement or failure, it was trial and error, looking back I don’t know how I did it, I was passionate. I played around with different editing techniques until I found the right one for me.
When they say that the artist is its toughest critic they weren’t lying, I am not obsessed with the final product, especially after watching it multiple times and analysing every small detail, its not perfect but its my creation and it achieved the meaning the title holds “Life Beyond Our Eyes”
