A family friend, Jacob, along with his wife Andreea, works as a photographer and videographer. I contacted Jacob in the hope that he would be able to provide me with a camera for filming, as well as offer some guidance on editing. I reached out to him on Thursday, and by Friday I had spoken with Darius, we both decided that Sunday afternoon would be best. 

My friend Andra (Darius’s sister) acted as my assistant during the shoot. She was responsible for taking behind the scenes photos, managing the speaker and music, and singing the lyrics to Darius so he could accurately lip-sync. 

Jacob also offered to stay and support me throughout the filming process. He explained how to use the camera and suggested a few creative ideas, specifically camera movement. He encouraged me to be free with it, to move naturally and aim for a raw, authentic feel. At first, I was unsure how to stabilise the camera while moving, as I didn’t want the footage to be affected by the motion of my steps. Jacob advised me to keep the camera pressed close to my body, which helped maintain steadiness.

Originally, I planned to film at 16:00, but due to Jacob having another event to attend, we postponed the shoot until 18:00. The location was approximately a 30 minute drive away, which worked perfectly, as the sun was less intense and beginning to set. The sky was clear, which was a relief, considering that the previous day and most of the week had been cloudy and rainy.

The shoot went better than I had anticipated. For one particular scene, we relied on the direction of the wind to carry a piece of cloth across Darius’ face, which required patience. Since I had forgotten the handkerchief at home, we improvised by using a napkin instead. It took several attempts to achieve the desired effect, and despite a few unsuccessful tries, the process remained enjoyable. After a few laughs and adjustments, we were able to capture the shot.
