Inspiration
When I first began brainstorming possible scenes and themes for the music video, I knew I wanted to incorporate an open field as a key location. At that stage, however, I was unsure whether the song I had chosen would align conceptually with such a setting or how I would integrate it in a meaningful way.
My main source of inspiration was my friend Darius’ music video. The opening 38 seconds show him performing alone in an open field, filmed in mid-autumn. The sequence follows a performance-style format, with Darius and his band singing live rather than miming, which creates a sense of authenticity. The use of a combination of long shots and mid shots, alongside the fact that he never looks directly into the camera, reinforces the natural and raw quality of the performance. This effect is further enhanced by the handheld camera technique, which gives the footage an unpolished, documentary-like feel.
Just before the chorus, the video transitions to a live performance featuring the entire band, Refill, on stage. This footage was filmed a year earlier during a free concert they organised for the Bistrița community. The shift from the isolated field setting to the collective energy of the live performance creates a strong contrast between intimacy and public spectacle.
The video then returns to the field, where there is a low-angle, slightly tilted mid-waist shot of Darius. Behind him, the cloudy sky is broken by rays of sunlight, visually reinforcing the lyric “eu până la cer voi pleca.”
The ending consists of a close-up of the audience’s hands clapping, followed by a shot of Darius placing his guitar back into its case, which provides a calm and conclusive resolution to the performance.
I appreciated how the music video visually reflected Darius as an artist and as a person. It felt authentic, avoiding the use of overly complex scenes, elaborated props or stylised camera movements. Instead, the simplicity of the setting and the natural performance style created a sense of humility and honesty, allowing the focus to remain on the music and the emotion behind it rather than on visual spectacle.
Where I will be filming
The field is located in our County
The character will drive on Bulevardul Republicii, which is the main road that runs through the middle of the city and has traffic in both directions.
At the end of the boulevard, he will turn right onto Strada Barbu Stefanescu Delavrancea, at the intersection turn right onto Strada Dornei. These smaller streets are quieter and help show a transition from a public space to a more personal one.
He will park near the Evangelical Church, then walk to Parcul Municipal, which is the city’s main park.
In the park, he will find the pieces of cloth and look at his reflection in the pond. This moment represents him thinking about himself and discovering his purpose.
